IN DEMAND SOFT SKILLS CAN BE CULTIVATED

July 30, 2021 By Patrick Hutchison

Hard skills are easy to acquire?

It is easy to show that people have acquired the skill of coding, touch typing or analysis using Google Analytics, but how can you practice and develop soft skills?  Research has proven that people who are better at soft skills are more successful.

Based on a study by Deloitte. “Soft skill-intensive occupations will account for two-thirds of all jobs by 2030.”.  Thank you, AI and the 4th Industrial Revolution…

Human interaction, not as easy now that everyone focuses on small screens

The most in-demand soft skills for any industry

  • Time Management
  • Effective Communication
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Conflict Management
  • Teamwork Skills

Coaching can help you acquire and practice the soft-skills you need

Many of my clients know themselves well, but many sometimes over-state how effective they are, especially with soft skills because they are intangible.  I work with them to find their strengths and cultivate the ones that need work.  It is very rewarding.

GRIT, WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE IT?

July 22, 2021 By Patrick Hutchison

TO ME, GRIT MEANS RESILIENCE.

What is another word for grit? | Grit Synonyms – WordHippo Thesaurus

WE NEED TO PRACTICE RESILIENCE

Some people are naturally accustomed to thriving in environments that are volatile, ambiguous, or uncertain (VUCA).  Many of us can learn to practice resilience.  From recent experience, we are going to need resilience to keep on course.

5 WAYS TO DEVELOP RESILIENCE

  • Become self-aware
  • Regulate your emotions
  • Develop a positive mindset
  • Practice self-care
  • Get support from family or friends

COACHING HELPS YOU TO KEEP TO YOUR PLAN

Like resilience, coaching helps you to keep moving towards your goal.  A coach can help you re-work your plan or adjust your timeline realistically.
Flexibility is key and working with someone towards your success is better than doing it alone.

South Africa is – and always will be – resilient.

July 16, 2021 By Patrick Hutchison

Living amidst unrest requires an agile mindset

Our TV, computer and cell-phone screens show us vivid images of looting, violence and people demanding to be heard.  How can we deal with what is happening around us, to us and to the people we care about?

VUCA

Our world, having exploded into change right in front of us is an example of VUCA.  VUCA means Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous and once we understand that the only constant is change, we can learn to adapt quickly.

An agile mindset

An agile or learning mindset has characteristics that can be adopted by anyone and are easy to put into practice, unlike personality traits that people find harder to change.  Here are five of the characteristics that will help us manage in our current environment.

Information gathering:
Know what is happening in and around the area where you live or work.  Don’t accept all information that you receive as true.  Always look for the truth, people have been using social media to spread misinformation.
Collaborating:
Our family, neighbours, employers, and colleagues are able to give us varied insight and they may have come across information that we didn’t.  Work together for a good outcome.
Ask others for help:
Each one of us has a skill or ability that can help others.  We cannot succeed alone and that is not what is expected.  Its what you bring to the table that’s important, not what you take.
Seeking Feedback:
Asking for feedback can be hard.  We don’t want to hear criticisms or that we aren’t good at something.  Using feedback constructively can help you be better at something you like doing.  Be open and look for the value in it.  Discard what doesn’t work for you.
Flexibility:
Trying new things can either work out the way we planned, or we can learn for our next attempt at success.  Our motivations, outcomes and needs may stay the same, but there are many ways to get there.  Experiment and find what works for you.

Coaching :
Coaching is about people; it’s about equipping people to be successful in their own world.  The world is changing and how we adapt will determine our success.
Be safe out in the world.  Remember VUCA and thrive!

Coaching develops self-awareness

July 8, 2021 By Patrick Hutchison

Why is self-awareness important?

At work, a party or even at a school or academic event we interact with people. How we express ourselves determines how easily we succeed.

Self-awareness leads self-expression

You may think you are presenting yourself as intelligent, quirky or fun, but how do your friends, colleagues or boss view your actions?

Self-awareness helps you identify the reasons why it could be difficult to connect sometimes. It helps you to:

  • Know who you are and how you’re perceived
  • Know what’s important, your values, priorities, goals
  • Know what you like or don’t like, but more importantly the reasons why.
  • Ask for feedback and evaluate it constructively
  • Understand others.

How does coaching help improve self-awareness?

A coach works with you to help you objectively consider your performance or needs and helps you to decide your next steps. Coaches, who are by definition objective, will give you unbiased advice towards reaching your goals.

What makes Disclosure better?

We use scientifically proven tools to help you identify your motivations, your values and your goals.

Using your results, we work on a customised plan that supports you, on your way to success.-

COACHING CAN BOOST REVENUES BY 7%

July 4, 2021 By Patrick Hutchison

Coaching helps you perform better.

There is a direct connection between coaching and performance.  The International Coaching Federation (ICF) 2017 Annual Report, said  that “organizations with strong coaching cultures indicate recent revenues above that of their industry peer group (46% compared to 39% of other responding organizations) and report higher employee engagement (61% and 53%, respectively).”

Think about it…how does a 7% increase sound to you?

I don’t know about you, but I can do with a 7% increase in income.  Performance determines how successful you are and when I coach, my focus is to guide you on the path to greater success.

Where do I start?

The best place to start… Decide what success is for you.  Step 2; talk to me about how to make it happen.

Smart Coaching

June 20, 2021 By kubandren.reddy@gmail.com

Lets get smart about coaching.

Coaching is a partnership that helps a person tap into their latent potential.  How do you get the most from your coaching experience?

Tips for an effective coaching partnership

Identify your challenges. It always helps to get the ball rolling when you have a challenge or goal you want to reach.  The value of coaching is to consider the challenge or goal from different perspectives and seeing it for what it is, and what it can be.

Prepare to explore. This doesn’t mean that you need to bring a business case, or even make notes. Preparing may be as simple as putting together a list of decisions, or thoughts or even considering what your next steps are or working on an idea.

Know your outcomes. Building the future is uncertain, knowing what you want is easy.  Its knowing the next steps that trip us up sometimes.  Working with a coach can help you clarify the next steps and work with you to realize the outcomes you want.

Consider the risks. What could go wrong is usually the furthest from our minds when we consider the future.  We’ve had enough “gloomscrolling”.  Considering what could stop us from achieving our goals is thought to be negative and to be avoided.  Be proactive, identify the risks and plan to overcome them.  Its much easier not to get knocked off course if you anticipated the wave!

Direct your next steps. Putting together a plan of action is your first step on the road to success.  Sticking with it is usually where people need help and that’s exactly where your coach can support and guide you.Knowing what to do and doing it are two separate actions.

I believe in being effective.

An effective coaching partnership helps you succeed.  An effective next step is to connect.

You (Should) / Could get a coach?

June 20, 2021 By kubandren.reddy@gmail.com

Coaching is as valuable as the effort you put into it.

The word should prompts many feelings, mostly the opposite of positive…  It reminds us of times when we were dissatisfied with an outcome or thought we should have taken a parent’s advice.  On the other hand, could speaks of how good or positive an outcome can be.  It draws us to a positive future and entices us with the feeling of creativity.

Coaching is a creative process.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “a partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.”   Create your future success by partnering with a strong coach.

Productive Partnership to reach your goals.

We are better when we are inspired.  If you ask Olympic athletes why they do what they do, they usually say they are successful because they’re inspired by family or someone close.  Olympic athletes have the drive and inspiration to reach success, but they also have a coach that helps them tap into their strength and resilience.  Success requires work, and there is nothing better than a productive partnership to make it happen.

“Should you” is past tense.  The question is “Could you get a coach?”

Your future is yours to achieve.  The question whether you should get a coach is up to you.  The question whether you could get a coach is much easier.  Reach out and lets create a productive partnership.
