Living amidst unrest requires an agile mindset<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our TV, computer and cell-phone screens show us vivid images of looting, violence and people demanding to be heard.  How can we deal with what is happening around us, to us and to the people we care about?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VUCA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our world, having exploded into change right in front of us is an example of VUCA.  VUCA means Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous and once we understand that the only constant is change, we can learn to adapt quickly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An agile mindset<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An agile or learning mindset has characteristics that can be adopted by anyone and are easy to put into practice, unlike personality traits that people find harder to change.  Here are five of the characteristics that will help us manage in our current environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information gathering<\/strong>:
Know what is happening in and around the area where you live or work.  Don\u2019t accept all information that you receive as true.  Always look for the truth, people have been using social media to spread misinformation.
Collaborating<\/strong>:
Our family, neighbours, employers, and colleagues are able to give us varied insight and they may have come across information that we didn\u2019t.  Work together for a good outcome.
Ask others for help<\/strong>:
Each one of us has a skill or ability that can help others.  We cannot succeed alone and that is not what is expected.  Its what you bring to the table that\u2019s important, not what you take.
Seeking Feedback<\/strong>:
Asking for feedback can be hard.  We don\u2019t want to hear criticisms or that we aren\u2019t good at something.  Using feedback constructively can help you be better at something you like doing.  Be open and look for the value in it.  Discard what doesn\u2019t work for you.
Flexibility<\/strong>:
Trying new things can either work out the way we planned, or we can learn for our next attempt at success.  Our motivations, outcomes and needs may stay the same, but there are many ways to get there.  Experiment and find what works for you.

Coaching <\/strong>:
Coaching is about people; it\u2019s about equipping people to be successful in their own world.  The world is changing and how we adapt will determine our success.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>
Be safe out in the world.  Remember VUCA and thrive!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
